Special Events

At CMS, special events happen throughout the year.  They provide fun, entertaining opportunities to showcase our students and their work and extend the learning experience beyond the school building and regular school day.

 

August

  • Family Meet and Greet Picnic: a casual gathering that helps students and families to get to know one another before the new year begins

  • New Parent Orientation:  parents of new students learn about strategies for navigating CMS

  • Allerton Overnight:  this 2 –day trip provides an opportunity for all of the girls to bond with each other; we include educational and just plain fun activities

September

  • Curriculum Night:  parents meet teachers and get an overview of the coming year, as well as some ideas for ways they can support learning at home

​

October

  • Fall Open House:  an informal opportunity for anyone in the community to stop by and learn about CMS

​

November

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences:  parents meet one-on-one with teachers to discuss their student's progress

​

December

  • Winter Arts Festival: we highlight our students’ work in their performing arts classes

​

February

  • Forum Week: four days devoted to a special topic that students study in depth together; past topics have included film-making, podcasting, app design and  escape rooms.

  • Spring Open House:  prospective CMS students and their families visit to meet our faculty, explore our curriculum and learn about our admissions process

  • Art Show:  we showcase students' work in their fine and applied arts classes

March

  • Parent-Teacher Conferences:  parents meet one-on-one with teachers to discuss their student's progress

April

  • Drama Performance: students perform an original production to showcase their work in drama class during the year

 

May​

  • All School Field Trip:  we end our year with a field trip, usually to a nearby location, for a day of fun and learning as we prepare to say goodbye to our graduates and each other before summer vacation

  • Graduation:  we celebrate our 8th grade students' time at CMS and wish them well in high school
