Drama Teacher

Job Description

Campus Middle School for Girls (CMS) is seeking a Drama Teacher to join our faculty.  Students at CMS study drama in 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  Drama class focuses on ensemble building and creative problem solving through improvisation, skill building, rehearsal and performance, and playwriting.  The ideal candidate will be motivated, professional, and organized, with a passion for cultivating excellence and empowering girls.  This position is a part-time role, 6-10 hours per week depending on enrollment.

 

Position Responsibilities

  • Teach 2 hours of drama class per week to each class (3-4 classes, depending on enrollment)

  • Create instructional activities and assessments compatible with the interests and skills of students

  • Provide frequent opportunities for students to get comfortable in front of an audience

  • Collaborate with other Arts faculty to produce performances and other showcases of student work

  • Attend regular staff meetings, professional development days, curriculum nights, open houses and other events

  • Assess student progress and generate reports for parents and school administrators.

 

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in acting, theater studies or related field

  • A minimum of two years’ teaching experience, preferably at the middle school grade level

  • Considerable theatre performance experience, and a solid understanding of the demands and requirements of professional level rehearsal and performance

  • Directorial and script writing experience

  • Firm understanding of curriculum design and student-directed learning

  • Strong interest in collaborative and cross-curricular planning

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
